Newsletter 20th October 2024

Namaste,

Have you managed to catch the super Moon this week? It’s been looking pretty wonderful, lighting up our night skies. It’s the second of three in a row of super Moons, which is pretty rare!

The Moon carries the energies of compassion, gentleness, mothering, nourishment, nurture, emotional intelligence and intuition. It’s been the source of my inspiration for a couple of things recently - the first being a cleanse!

I’m on day 2 of a 5 day Ayurveda cleanse. As you’ve heard me say, if you’ve been coming along to class, the Autumn is a great time to do this and around this full moon it’s even better! Now there are hundreds of cleanses to choose from, so I’m sure there is something for everyone. The one I’ve chosen involves a very simple diet of oats, kitcheree (mung beans and rice) and vegetables. The kitcheree is great at scraping out the gut, collecting all the Ama (undigested, metabolic waste) and helping eliminate it. By feeding the body the same thing for a period of time, the digestive intelligence gets to know what’s coming and it provides a much needed rest for the whole
digestive system. It also encourages more rest. Keeping movement and activity gentle during a cleanse and sleeping more to conserve energy is important too.
I was wondering how the no sugar and bread rule would go, but so far it’s felt like a very kind thing to do for my body and I’m already feeling ‘brighter’ from within. I’m hoping I’ll make it to day 5…I’ll keep you posted!

This week we start our next evening Yoga theme and the Moon sits central stage for this. The popular ‘Namaste to the Moon’ is back! We will be exploring a series of Moon salutations to really welcome in this darker phase of the year and plug into some of the energies of the Moon I mention above. The first class with this theme is tomorrow! A quick reminder - there is no class in Ipstones this Tuesday 22nd October sorry. I’m off to see Steve Backshall at the Victoria Hall with my boys.

Plans for our first retreat of 2025 are coming together. The title for this one is:
‘Mothering the Mother’

We are getting out and about under the Moon today at our Earth School session where we will have conservationist Amy Dutton with us. The title for this session is ‘Seeing the dark as a place of beauty and richness.’
We will be taking an evening walk to see what creatures and life thrives in the dark.
All of life comes from the dark - a seed needs the dark to germinate, a baby needs the dark of a Mother’s womb. Life comes from the dark. Yet this is often a place we fear. Especially as children. We hope this session will help to change this. If you know a family who would like to come and join us, please ask them to get in touch.
We are meeting at 5.30pm at Oakamoor Cricket Club today.
